VERDEinMED

VERDEinMED Project

While the challenges and opportunities of used textiles are increasingly in the spotlight of governments, industry, and civil society, considerable system changes are required to transition towards a circular economy for textiles and clothing (T/C). Local, regional, and national governments can and should play a pivotal role to create the right conditions and incentives to accelerate this transition.

To close the textiles loop, all players within the T/C value chain need to be able to create a viable business case. In engagement processes, governments will need to include organisations that have not yet been part of the solution: those in charge of the end-of-use textiles value chain, such as waste management companies as collectors, sorters, recyclers, and also the end users involved in co-creating new products.

VERDEinMED (PreVEnting and ReDucing the tExtiles waste mountain in the MED area) will present an analytical framework to study the successful implementation of circular business models, identifying needs in business model innovation, technological innovation, social innovation, and the enabling conditions for policy and behavioural change.

The VERDE project will show the full palette of a threefold support service addressed to civil society, industry, and policy makers, indicating tailor-made interventions needed for this transition.

Starting with the reformation of the industry to adopt sustainable practices and orienting demand towards conscious consumption, it will conclude by defining a policy framework to support the transition of the T/C sector towards sustainability and circularity.

The ecosystem thus created will be sustained through the Verde Bussola, a Green Compass integrating the creation of regional hubs, a knowledge platform, and a support service into a single entity, bringing together experts and knowledge from different locations to prepare the framework for the establishment of knowledge and competence centres as a one-stop-shop in each region.

Funding: VERDEinMED is funded by the Euro-MED programme for a duration of 33 months.
